My literature class is reading The Great Gatsby. We are defining various quotes from the book.
This is my quote; It is in chapter 9.
When the phone rang that afternoon and Long Distance said Chicago was calling, I thought this would be Daisy at last. But the connection came through and it was a man's voice, very thin and far away.
"This is Slagle speaking..."
"Yes?" The name was unfamiliar.
"Hell of a note, isn't it? Get my wire?"
"There haven't been any wires."
"Young Parke's in trouble," he said " They picked him up when he handed the bonds over the counter. They got a circular from New York giving em the numbers just five minutes before. What d'you know about that, hey? You never can tell in these hick towns..."
That is my quote. I need to know what the significance of that is to the story.

Is there any good, reliable way to look up ISBN numbers?
I'm looking up textbooks for school, and two books I am having problems finding. They were posted on my university's official site with the ISBN numbers, but when I enter the numbers they don't come up. One book (Child Development by Parke) does not come up in any search I do, or seems to be sold anywhere. The other book (Research Methods by McBurney) is requested in the 10th edition, but the newest edition I can find is the 8th. Any help? Thanks!

Flooring alternative for a bathroom?
I have Parke flooring in Living/dining/Master bedroom.I have a 30 X 12 master bathroom with a Washer and Dryer in it.I want to be able to do the floor myself.Have done tile before but don't think I can handle such a big job.Has anybody ever done cork flooring.Is it easy to take care of will it last forever or at least 20+ years.Will it look good next to Parke flooring.Or any alternative that won't cost an arm and a leg but will not kill my resale value on my house.|||With the proper care the cork will last a long time. I m concerned about a possible moisture problem in a master bath, especially with a washer in it too. I think a big tile project it just what you need ..Tile will help or at least won t hurt the resale a bit in a master bath also. The photo was the photo that the police took when they discovered her off-blue and patchy bloated red body in a messy apratment in Portsmouth. Illegal drugs kill - that's the arguement. One thing is not right....i found the official ronan parke on facebook, just a like page, but he spoke to you on it! You knew it was him because there was some VERY personal photos that normal people would not be able to get!
However going onto it yesterday, it has all changed it was called 'RonanParkeFanPage' on the web address...but now it is 'RonanParkeMusic' all the personal photos have gone! All the wall posts have changed! Information has changed! Likes have changed!

so about 3 weeks ago i went to page Parke's and interviewed with one of the i guess talent scouts. she told me i have potential but i need to take that camp that's around 1000. I've convinced my parents to let me do it if i pay part of the cost too but I've been reading around here and i found some stuff on google and now I'm thinking it might be better to go take some acting classes at a cheaper place and get some headshots and then submit them to page.713 agency and other houston agencies.
i just want to know if you think this is a good idea or if i should just go ahead and pay the 1000. and also if page.713 is a scam or do they really get you places. please help me thank you.

Well lucky for you I've been through this process already lol. I've taken the class (i assume you're talking about the TVP class) and yeah it is expensive but it gives you formal training to put on your resume and all agents will like that. The class really all inclusive, you get a whole binder full of useful information, a class on skin care (about 1hr), a class on imaging (about 30min.), a class on photoposing (about 2hrs), and what i think is the most important a 3hr acting class (which i learned ALOT from). Plus the next day you get a photoshoot and with that your headshots and a guaranteed AUDITION for the agency. so all of that for a grand is worth it. at least i think so.
Also, only do it if acting is your PASSION! Don't do it if you only want to be an actor to be rich and famous! Because if you pay the money for the class and all you want is millions in return, i can pretty much promise you that you won't get with the agency. I've seen people in my "free classes" (oh btw after you take the TVP class you get free acting and photoposing classes for as long as you want) that did the TVP class, auditioned for the agency and DID NOT get in. So be sure your heart is in it! And be serious b/c a grand is serious cash right?
Anyway, to sum it up take the class (if you truly want to be a pro actor) because it is definitely worth it. I did it and got with the agency and its NOT a scam...people are just cheap and expect a whole lot of something for a whole lot of nothing, ya know?

You will also want to grab flyers from Houses for Sale because with the Economy as it is I've been running across Houses for Sale or Rent and it's listed on their flyer ( this is not in the newspaper,.. not that kind,.. but it's listed on sheets of paper from the realator's office or that's at the actual house).

Covered Bridge Festival?
Who has been to or heard of the Parke County Covered Bridge festival? If you have been there what is your favorite thing about it?|||we haven't been but want to go next year. We don't know what to expect, but I guess we'll cross that bridge when we come to it :o)|||It is filled with Lots of people, lots of crafts, homemade goodies and homemade cooking etc. They have hay rides and it just makes you feel like your back in the 1800's. They have so many vendors so you can find anything, from antiques to brand new items for sale. They have bed and breakfasts that are awesome. I just love it ! Southern Indiana is just beautiful.|||Been there, grew up 12 miles north of Parke County. I love going there for the food vendors...elephant ears are wonderful...and seeing all the arts %26amp; crafts vendors as well.

I've seen the South Parke episode on the Wal-Mart episode and I know the creators have their episodes based of real life situations. I wonder when they did the episode, are there people out there like that.|||At first glance, I sort of dismissed this question as quite silly. 95 honda civic 1.6L vtec coupe burning oil?
every two weeks it needs oil. when i parke it and later move it, it does drip no oil. i heard its burning it from the inside. what can i do?|||Ignore the morons above!
Honda's are great cars and with a little care and occasional maintenance, they will give years of inexpensive, trouble free motoring and you can save you money that the morons above are blowing on new car payments while the car drops in value faster than they can pay for it.
Anyway, the non-leaking but still using oil can come from two places and a possible third.
1) valve stem seals: this keep the oil around the cams from leaking down into the cylinder. they tend to harden up over 10-15 years and 150-250 k miles. If you get a puff of smoke out of the tailpipe when you let off of the throttle while in gear, it is a good chance the seals are dried out. It IS possible to repair them without taking down the engine but you may want to wait until you need to do the timing belt too since much of the same stuff comes off.
2) piston rings. These are internal and not much can be done except add a heavier weight oil. Try 10W-40 if you location allows (don't use below about 0 deg f.) and even 20W-50 but don't if it gets below about 25 deg F. If it gets too bad, get a low mileage JDM import motor (about $500 for you car) and have it installed - tada, less than $1k and you have a new car just about.
3) Cam seal. This leaks behind the timing belt and Honda put in a little deflector to force the oil outside of the timing belt covers. Honda's are great cars and with a little care and occasional maintenance, they will give years of inexpensive, trouble free motoring and you can save you money that the morons above are blowing on new car payments while the car drops in value faster than they can pay for it.
Anyway, the non-leaking but still using oil can come from two places and a possible third.
1) valve stem seals: this keep the oil around the cams from leaking down into the cylinder. they tend to harden up over 10-15 years and 150-250 k miles. If you get a puff of smoke out of the tailpipe when you let off of the throttle while in gear, it is a good chance the seals are dried out. It IS possible to repair them without taking down the engine but you may want to wait until you need to do the timing belt too since much of the same stuff comes off.
2) piston rings. These are internal and not much can be done except add a heavier weight oil. Try 10W-40 if you location allows (don't use below about 0 deg f.) and even 20W-50 but don't if it gets below about 25 deg F. If it gets too bad, get a low mileage JDM import motor (about $500 for you car) and have it installed - tada, less than $1k and you have a new car just about.
3) Cam seal. This leaks behind the timing belt and Honda put in a little deflector to force the oil outside of the timing belt covers. Best book about Abraham Lincoln?
I'm looking for a book detailing the life of Abraham Lincoln...oddly enough I became fascinated with him reading a fictional book (the snake oil wars, by Parke Godwin). Do people have any recommendations on which one they enjoyed the most?|||Of the many, many biographies of Lincoln, one of the more recent and more readable ones is Lincoln by David Herbert Donald, a two-time winner of the Pulitizer Prize for his biographies. This book won the 2006 Lincoln Prize (as Donald's book had in 1996).
The old classic, of course, is Carl Sandburg's multi-volume biography, which is still available in abridged editions. But Donald's book takes into account a good bit of information that has only recently become public from correspondence previously unavailable.
Another different and very interesting approach is Russell Freedman's Lincoln: A Photobiography. Listed as a children's book, it is of equal merit and fascination for adults, especially those with an interest in photography.

What do you make of Jai winning BGT?
I didn't expect him to win, though he was excellent. I thought Ronan Parke or Michael Collings would win and was kinda shocked when Collings didn't get to the final 3.I thought Ronan would win then but was surprised by the outcome. Fareplay to Ronan though, as the congratulated Jai in his thank you speech and didn't seem too upset. What should i call my son?
I am due June 6th and i am stuck between 4 names. My husband, Ronan Parke, likes the most Evan Parke and Benjamin Parke. I like the most Charlie Parke and Joshua Parke.
What do u like the most?|||I like Evan, Benjamin and Joshua, they are all good. Charlie is a nickname not a full name, Charles as a full name sounds more masculine and classy IMO.|||Hi. I'm not crazed about any of those names, but if I had to choose, it would be Evan. Here are a few choices that I think are cute, but remember, it's up to you and your husband what to name your son. Which area in Chicago is the safest?
I know every area has its good and bad. But which of these areas is the best and which is the worst: Loop, S. Loop, W. Loop, Lakeshore East, River North and Streeterville? Is Hyde Parke, where the University if Chicago Hospitals is located, safer?

Hyde Park is OK in the day, not night and at any time you can accidentally wander into the much more dangerous Kenwood area especially around UofC hospitals.
Loop and south loop are fine, lot of people out now a days because fo the colleges and housing in the south loop.
West loop is empty at night. More people around the better.
All of lakeshore is east. North lake shore and most of the neighborhoods just to the west are safe 24/7. South lakeshore is not safe
Streeterville is fine, lots of people around, lots to do. You have some aggressive street people in the area but they are an annoyance not a danger. My boyfriends Hyundai got broken into how do they do it?
he drives a Hyundai Accent with roll down windows. There was no visible entry. who ever did it left his window slightly rolled down (his window was rolled all the way up and doors locked when he parke it). The only thing they took was his back pack. They didn't steal his stereo which is a pull out and they left his glove compartment open but didn't take anything out. This doesn't seem typical? Why would they only take his back pack and how did they get into his locked car without leaving any damage on the car? We later found his school books and binder thrown at the side of the lane-way but haven't been able to find his back-pack. Any answers welcom as we have no way of knowing how this was done and without knowing how can we protect ourselves from having this happen again.

A flexible strip of metal, you slide it down in between the glass of the window, down inside of the door skin, where all the gears and mechanics are that operate the window and locks. You just fish around until you hit the right spot, and it unlocks the door.

Bad thing about car alarms, they go off so many times-so many false alarms that people ignore them.
